Since its incorporation, Applied Isotope Technologies (AIT) has entirely focused on creation of new technologies, measurement tools, products and services that improve environmental, biological and industrial analyses. The company’s products play a critical role in providing significantly improved levels of accuracy, sensitivity and convenience in trace and sub-trace analyses using an important class of analytical instruments called mass spectrometers and a patented technology platform. Today, these instruments are capable of analyzing compounds at parts-per-trillion (nanogram per liter) levels.

There is only one class of analytical instrument that is universally capable of delivering sub-trace analyses for all types of samples: the mass spectrometer (MS). Over the past couple of decades, the MS has become the dominant analytical instrument for detection of analytes that must be measured at very small quantities. However, greater potential of the MS remains untapped because accurate, truly quantitative MS analysis of many important compounds that affect human health and environment is currently unachievable or very difficult and expensive.

The ability to identify and accurately measure complex chemical structures by the MS, in their functional or speciated forms, is possible only through the application of the AIT’s technology platform and associated automation tools called IDEA™. The foundation of the IDEA technology platform is advanced utilization of enriched stable isotopes as measurement yardsticks. The company’s “calibration-curve-free Speciated Isotope Diluton MS (ccf-SIDMS)” protocol yields highly accurate analytical data without any calibration curves, each and every time. AIT continues to develop IDEA applications that are making significant and transformational impact in several multi-billion dollar industries.

The IDEA  is a broadly applicable invention that has been codified in 1998 by the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) as national method (EPA Method 6800) under the US Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations. It is now globally recognized as the gold standard capable of accurate and legally defensible speciated measurements.” An impressive body of scientific literature accumulated over a decade leaves no doubt about the unprecedented analytical power and utility of the ccf-SIDMS.
